Camp Reach For The Sky

We got Steven's final results two weeks ago today and all is well, the lumbar puncture was clear.

It was an incredible week for us, such mixed feelings of anticipation, fear, and relief, the experience was draining.

We arrived back in San Diego very late Friday night the sixth, around 10 pm San Diego time, which translates to midnight Memphis time. I essentially didn't sleep while I was there, not until I got home.

First thing Monday morning I put Steven on the bus, headed for Julian and Camp Reach For the Sky. The camp is sponsored by the American Cancer Society, and doctors and nurses from the local hospitals attend along with the kids. The camp is located at Camp Marston, a YMCA camp he's been to previously with the Indian Guides.

About 200 kids gathered in the parking lot early Monday morning to check in and get on the buses. The camp is for kids ages 8-18 and the bulk of the kids are age 13 and over. Steven was originally apprehensive about going when he found out Sean couldn't go too, but at some point changed his mind.

He came home early afternoon on Saturday the 14th. His first camping experience was a good one. The camp has a climbing wall, lakes for swimming, archery, and many other fun things to do. This is the first time Steven has been away from home where he wasn't staying with a good friend or relative and where we couldn't talk to him, but we think this was a good thing for him.

We hope he had the time of his life.

My son Pierre Harvey was a camper for about 12 years. This year he is a counselor he left on the 3rd of july. I am sure he met your son as He was there in 05 as a camper to. As a mom I know how hard this road is and how many tears it takes to get thru a day. I hope all is well with you and your family
regards
Carina Harvey
