Cycle 4, Day +27: The Road Home

Home—that blessed word, which opens to the human heart
the most perfect glimpse of Heaven, and helps to carry it thither,
as on an angel’s wings.

- Lydia M. Child

ROAD TRIP!

- John Belushi

Today we begin our journey home, a driving trip.

Some of our amazing Memphis friends arranged to ship all our boxes for us, a formidable amount of things, boxes too big to fit in our car.

This trip is our decompression time. We are going to drive only as far as we feel like each day. If we see a sign going somewhere that sounds interesting to us, we're going to take a detour and go.

We're going to stop driving at night while the sun is still out, we're going to eat dinner in a sitdown restaurant, no more than two meals a day at drivethrough restaurants.

We don't know exactly how long it will take us. Last time we arrived in Memphis 50 hours after we left San Diego, we won't do that this time.

We're going to listen to books on tape in the car and to Doug reading aloud. We're going to take our time. We're not going to make it home by Mother's Day, my own personal Mother's Day wish is for a relaxing day with my family, wherever that happens to be is immaterial.

We have one planned stop at Canyon De Chelly in Arizona, with possibly side trips to the Painted Desert and Monument Valley. I've wanted to go there since I was in college and I've never been.

If you wish to reach us, you can call us on our cell phones:

858.603.1438 Kathy
858.705.3567 Doug

We're looking forward to seeing everyone at home.

What a journey this has been...
