Post-Surgery Update
Steven's surgery was this morning. He started going downhill rapidly after about 2 am, he was in so much pain from his headache he could hardly function. The headache was causing vomiting, which quickly turned into uncontrollable dry heaves.
The doctor said no pain meds, decadron and zofran only, and they weren't working, in fact it seemed quite the opposite. When the IV's would hit his bloodstream, he'd start vomiting uncontrollably.
Surgery was 3 1/2 hours and the neurosurgeon declared it a gross total resection. He said it was a PNET, but we are still pending the official report. Followup MRI tomorrow morning. Steven is woozy, but much more alert than before the surgery, and drinking clear fluids. The oncologist cautioned us against assuming anything about the pathology until the official report comes out. Haven't gotten any report yet about possible mets to the spine.
We're wiped out. I haven't slept at all since Monday night. Hoping for a better night tonight.
